MARCH– In like a lion, out like a lamb!
THANKS TO ALL PARENTS who attended Parent Conference Day! I appreciate the opportunity to talk with you about your child and your plans for his/her future education. Students always amaze me at how much they can learn in a few short months! Those going on to Kindergarten and Pre-kindergarten are prepared to do a good job!
MARDI GRAS HOLIDAYS are Monday through Wednesday, March 7, 8, and 9. We will have school Thursday and Friday, March 10 and 11.
LIONS CLUB VISION SCREENING was completed February 16 and 17. Results will be sent home when I receive them.
REGISTRATIONS FOR SCHOOL YEAR 2011-2012 are being accepted now. If you know of possible students, let me know, and I will send them information.
DAYLIGHT SAVING TIME begins Sunday, March 13th. We spring forward in the Spring. We lose an hour of sleep!
AUDUBON ZOO FIELD TRIP for the Multi-age Class will be Wednesday, March 30. We will leave at 9:30 AM. School shirts should be worn. As always, all chaperones are welcome. We will pay for the children and one chaperone. If you wish to bring siblings and extra guests, you will need to pay $5.00 per person (adult or child). When visiting the Zoo as a group we cannot use Membership Passes. You may stay as long as you like at the Zoo. I had thought we might go to the Aquarium, but it is expensive, and so is the parking.
EASTER is late this year, April 24th. We will have Good Friday, April 22nd, and Easter Monday, April 25th off.
The STAFF will attend an all-day workshop on Saturday, March 19th. Some of the Topics will include: "I Can't Handle This Child"- Winning Solutions for Difficult Kids, How to Make Naptime and Mealtime a Breeze, End the Boo-hoo's, Screaming, & "Whiney-Pineys" – Strategies for Sensitive, Clingy, Demanding Kids, etc.
SUMMER CAMP REGISTRATION will begin April 1. Camp will run from Tuesday, July 5, through Friday, July 29th. Campers may attend 3 days, Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, or all 5 days. The cost is $140.00 for the 3 days and $185.00 for the 5 days. Half is due when you register, and the other half on the first day of camp. If enough parents request Extended Care, it will be available Monday through Friday, from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM for $10.00 an afternoon. The Theme will be “Sunny Skies, Bugs, and Mud-Pies.”
TODDLER CLASS NEWS
The Toddlers had a fabulous February preparing fancy Valentine bags and beautiful Valentines for their parents. They enjoined reciting “Mailbox Valentine” and learning about loving family and friends. Decorating our very own King Cakes and Mardi Gras masks was a big hit. We also learned about trains and signal lights. We are looking forward to March, St. Patrick's Day, the study of the color green, and preparing for Easter.
MULTI-AGE CLASS NEWS
Everyone has grown physically, socially, and cognitively! The children create new games to play, have made special friends, cut and color more accurately, and are very independent. February was a very busy month from Ground Hog Day to Parent Conference Day. I sometimes wonder how much the children are truly listening, but after a lesson on Dental Health, one little girl told her mother she would eat an apple for a snack. Another child went home and told his Mom all about George Washington, his teeth, wigs, etc. This past week the children are making “Hey, Mister! Throw me something. . .” posters, using their hands and picking out the color of beads they like. We have been learning about our state of Louisiana and Mardi Gras. We took a neighborhood walk, noticed all of the flowers in bloom, and the houses that are decorated for Mardi Gras. Home Learning will return after Mardi Gras.
